"A different rendition of Earth, like yourself. The differences threw me off for a while." Leah saw her chance to change her identity and to become something different in a new world, and thus far, it worked to her advantage. Little to no one knew who she was for once. Small blessings.
Leah replied and pointed ahead towards a large building. "That's where you need to go. I'll keep walking with you." A loud roar bellowed from within the structure and Leah stopped walking, "Hm, seems trouble has begun already today."

"How many Earths are there?"
The question probably been asked many times from various people already, but it was a good question to ask. If there was a multiverse than there were probably many different versions of Earths. Some similar and some vastly different, but the answers to those questions could wait for another time when the roar nearly made Utena jump out of her skin.
"What was that?"

"As many as there are parallel universes, which I'm sure is countless." For the time being, anyways. Science had no idea how many existed. Leah frowned, lifted her right leg, rolled up her pant leg, and slid a knife out of a strapped-on holster. "Something angry, but I'd be ready just in ca--." Something big barrelled out of the doorway of the charity and people were scrambling in different directions. Debris and the door itself flew off, crashed to the ground, and the creature shook off the dust. From within the building, someone shouted for the creature to calm down, but instead, it screamed at the voice, and ran off in the opposite direction of Utena and Leah.
Whatever it was, it looked like some odd, giant frog-like creature that ran on its hind legs.
"That...happens sometimes." Leah put the knife away, "My advice? Go in, tell them what needs to be said, get your donations, and get out."

Utena just stood there rooted to her spot in shock and fear as the creature came out of the building and then returned to the inside. What kind of world was this where something like that could be just brushed off as normal? Clearly the appearance of people from a multiverse was breaking all kinds of standards.
"You expect me to go in there with that thing running loose?"
Yeah, no way. She would pass on that. This couldn't be the only shelter in the city.

"Yep, whoever got it mad got it back under control. Trust me, that's not the worst that has happened." Leah decided not to elaborate in order to not further discourage her from going in, but she did have an idea to help her avoid a lot of the crowding in there from off-worlders.
"Come on. We'll go through the exit in the back. There's usually someone back there." She may as well see this through until Utena got situated.

"Do you have any idea which world that thing came from?"
She was curious, but wouldn't be mad if Leah couldn't think of an answer as she followed her to the back entrance of the building. Glad to see that Leah was sticking by her for now, though she was puzzled at her own relief as she barely knew this woman. Despite not knowing much about each other she was helping her and she was grateful for that.
"By the way, I really appreciate the fact you're helping me. I know you don't owe me anything."

"Who knows? I've met people coming from planets I can't pronounce." Some had so many vowels, she gave up trying. No sense in putting in effort. Leah knocked thrice on the exit door and waited for someone to open it. "I've been in your position." Leah gave her a closed-lipped smile, and watched the door again, "This world is confusing but you'll adjust, just need time."
Something large and fragile broke inside and Leah's eyes widened with concern. There were shouts within that sounded distressed. Great--another disturbance. "You want to stay out here while I check things out?"
Leah didn't mind and wouldn't blame her for wanting to stay somewhere safe.

Utena heard the sound of something breaking coming from inside and wondered what the hell could be going on now. But she wasn't about to back down this time. She has been through a lot at home and she was a courageous woman that didn't back down from a challenge. She brushed a finger on the hilt of her fencing sword and looked towards Leah.
"I'm coming with you."

"Stand away from the door."
Then, as if she were taking a leisurely stroll through a park, she walked right through it. The lock clicked, turned, and then another angry roar bellowed from within. No sounds came from the door right after for a few seconds, but then, she opened it, and invited Utena inside. If she wanted to get involved, she wouldn't stop her. Leah motioned for her to stay low and they went inside.
There were piles of boxes towering towards the low ceiling in the storage room, which provided excellent coverage from the source of the enraged shouts.
It could have easily been mistaken for a mutated alligator. It was shorter in length, had longer, stronger legs, and a body built for strength rather than speed. Debris was lodged in its scales and its yellow eyes were fixated on a humanoid. It was babbling out a language she couldn't understand but it was trying to calm the creature.
"Got anything like that on your world?" She had her doubts, but it was worth asking.
It snarled and the humanoid took a step back, still holding its arms out, still trying to coax it to calm down.

Utena's round blue eyes widened to even greater size upon seeing the mutated lizard and the humanoid creature. When asked if she had anything like that in her world she merely looked at Leah in amazement.
"Maybe in comic books, but nothing like that in real life."
She didn't read much manga, but knew that was the kind of thing of fiction. She stayed hidden alongside Leah unsure of what to do. The creature wasn't hurting anybody yet, so Utena chose to remain hidden for now and wait to see what the thing would do next.
