"I was born and raised here, yes. At the bottom of a hill on a dead end. I moved to Downtown Kansas City a few years ago."
Naomi turned the key into the ignition and heard her baby purr before pulling out of the parking lot and getting out to the main road driving her way to Downtown Kansas City.
"I don't know about our friend here. Where are you from, Alex?"

"I'm from Chicago, but I moved to Kansas because I got a shop behind a gun counter."
It paid good money too and people were buying like crazy with the fear of otherworlders coming to Kansas City and wandering around being from either an entirely different universe or a different Earth. Alex only judged people according to their deeds, but that didn't mean she wouldn't be cautious just in case some of them proved dangerous. But you didn't have to be from another world to be dangerous.

"Huh, nice to have a couple of locals to show me around." She gave a small smile, happy enough to have met some people at least willing to hear her out rather than gawk at her.
Rain closed her eyes, sighing slightly and gathering her thoughts, trying to think of anything she'd want to ask.
"So..." She started. "This world has an Oscorp, mine did back home. Does this world have stuff like Mutants and Super Heroes? A Stark Industries?" Might be good to see just what's the same, for now. She suppressed a wince as she realized she probably shouldn't be talking about Oscorp, considering what she did when they pulled her here.

"Oh, Chicago. I never been. Is it nice there?"
Naomi looked back into her rear view mirror to look at Rain who began asking her questions. Naomi knew there were mutants in this world too because she knew one personally, and superheroes for sure. As with a certain caped woman flying around Kansas City and Tony Stark announcing himself as Iron Man.
"Yeah, we have those. Stark Tower is located in the business district of Kansas City and he declared himself Iron Man after escaping captivity in the Middle East. We also have a mysterious caped woman flying around the city who we're calling Supergirl."
Naomi thought she should have been called Superwoman, but that was neither here nor there.

"Yeah, it's nice."
Alex allowed Naomi to answer her question. It didn't sound like her world was too different from theirs if it had an Oscorp and Stark Industries. Alex figured this woman must have been from a different Earth like some of the other otherworlders who were announced coming into their world. Just how many Earths were there?
"We have an Osborn and Stark here too. Osborn have been under investigation after a strange child was seen coming out of Oscorp laying waste to its foundation."

"Huh, wonder what they were up to... I mean, apart from the inter-dimensional kidnappings." A strange child, eh? She'd done her best to keep herself looking like an adult, and it wasn't very likely that 'a strange child' might have referred to Rain herself, with her rather distinct skull-face and shiny blue get-up.
"Huh, Osborn and Stark are here, Stark's saying he's Iron Man, that's pretty close to where I came from, though everything like that was happening in New York instead of Kansas."

"Experiments," Naomi said grimly. "There has been secret reports of Oscorp conducting inhuman experiments behind closed doors, though nothing has been confirmed. I'm actually investigating the matter myself."
She wanted to crack the story before anyone else did. That kind of juicy detail could skyrocket her career and get her world-wide recognition being able to bust the unstoppable juggernaut that was Oscorp, but that wasn't the only reason she wanted to bust them. She wanted to bust them because it was the right thing to do. Naomi finally made it to Downtown Kansas City and began on the route to her apartment.
((Should I make a new thread?))

"It's just rumor until it's been proven. I know they've done some sketchy things with animals in the past, but human experiments is on another scale."
Alex didn't believe anything the tabloids published, and would wait for somewhere more legitimate to break the news if there were any news to break. The comment about everything happening in New York amused her. As it seemed some of the stuff popular in Kansas City would've been better suited for a big place like New York City anyway.
"Did you live in New York City back home, Rain?"
((I'd keep it here myself.))

"Yeah, in the Big Apple itself..." Rain's voice was softer, much quieter. It started to hurt again, thinking about home, about how she might not get back. With a shaky breath, she suppressed the rush of emotions creeping up on her.
"Guess Kansas City is the new, well, New York." She chuckled a bit, looking out of the window. Being in a different city made her situation less jarring, less familiar in a wholly unfamiliar setting. At least she's met some genuinely nice people here...

"I always wanted to visit New York City, but it has never been a good time. What's it like?"
As soon as she asked that question she wondered if Rain's New York City was different from their New York City, which Naomi knew nothing about. As she pondered on that question she arrived at her apartment building and pulled up in the parking lot.
"We're here."
Naomi took off her seat belt and exited the car leading the two through the entrance of the apartment building and to her apartment. Unlocking the door and opening it allowing the two to step inside to see a small living room with an even smaller kitchen and a doorway that led out to the bathroom and her bedroom.
"Make yourselves at home."

Alex was the second one to get out of the car and followed Naomi to her apartment. Stepping inside and looking around the place. It wasn't much, but when you were on wages like Naomi and Alex were on you took what you could get.
"You have a nice home."
Alex sat down on the sofa and made herself comfortable.
"Do you have anything to drink?"

"Thanks" The apartment was felt warm, despite its size. She took a seat, carefully tucking her skirt in and making sure she wasn't sitting on her chains. Rain was a guest here, she wasn't gunna chain up Naomi's couch!
She wanted to say something, maybe ask for a drink herself or share a compliment, but the words stuck in her throat. Her head was still swimming with uncertainty and she was doing her best to keep from drowning.

"Yeah. I have coffee, tea, milk, orange juice, koolaid, soda, and of course water."
Naomi walked over to the small kitchen and opened her fridge to see if she still had all the drinks she named minus the tea and coffee which was elsewhere, and she did. She wouldn't have to go to the store for a while now. At least not for drinks, but her meals were starting to go down in size again.
"What all would you like?"

"I'll take a coffee."
Alex loved her coffee. She wasn't even able to function in the morning until she had at least one cup of black coffee with plenty of creamers to go with it. She stay seated in her seat and looked over to where Rain was sitting.
"Tell us more about your world, Rain. Is it very different from our Earth?"

"It's not, I think." It took a few seconds to compare and contrast what she had seen so far but also to swallow a lump in her throat. It was still so fresh, Rain tried not to think about how she was never seeing her parents again.
"Like I said, a lot of what's going on here was in New York... Big city, very loud." Rain was trying to answer both of them at once, tensing slightly as she kept a choke-hold on her composure.
"But it was home, though it was dangerous and pretty expensive. Things here seem way more focused in Kansas, Kansas City's like New York City without the sea... My world was nowhere near as scientifically advanced, nobody making inter-dimensional portals, but we had people who were born... different." That got a humourless smile and a small chuckle out of her.
"Mutants, like me. Well, not exactly like me, but people who were different, looked different, could do all sorts of things people couldn't." Maybe she was rambling at this point? For all she knew this world had mutants already.
