"One coffee coming up."
Naomi made a quick batch of coffee and came back to the living room to hand it to Alex before looking at Rain.
"Did you want anything, Rain?"
Naomi listened as she talked about mutants and nodded her head.
"Yeah, we have mutants in this world too. There's a school for them outside the city that my best friend, Ayen, went to. He's a telepath who can control electricity and even fly. I flew with him a couple of times, well, he held me. I'm not a mutant, but I support their plight."

Alex took the cup of coffee in her hand and gave it a small sip. it tasted just right so thankfully Naomi knew what she was doing when it came to serving coffee.
"Thank you."
Alex kept the coffee in her hands as Rain explained the things about her world. So she had mutants too, well that made sense. Rain looked like a mutant herself, but Alex didn't want to assume and she thought it would've been rude to ask if she was. It was none of her business if she was or not.
"Doesn't Charles Xavier run that school?" she asked Naomi.

"N-Nothing for me, thanks." Rain's smile got a bit warmer as she spoke, the thought was enough for her.
"Xavier, that's a name from my world too. I couldn't get into his school, got dragged here before people found out what I was." She looked down as she spoke, letting out a sigh as it got hard to keep her feelings in check.
"Sorry, it's a bit hard to talk about home... I'm not getting back there, am I?"

So this Rain was a mutant. That gave Naomi an idea.
"Hey, that's no problem. My best friend could introduce you to Xavier and he can help you get a grip on your powers. I could call him right now if you'd like."
When she asked if she was ever getting home she looked at her sadly.
"I don't know. We haven't figured out what is causing these portals to open, or how to open one manually yet, but I wouldn't give up hope. You may be able to return home some day."

Alex wasn't sure what to say. She wanted the woman to have hope, but she didn't want to give her hopes up at the same time. She took another sip of her coffee and mulled over what she wanted to say, but Naomi said it better than she ever could.
"In the meantime there are shelters you can go to that are taking people in your same situation in so you have a place to stay."

"I'd... like that. Probably not Xavier, though. I know how to use my powers fine." She grew defensive, a bit overly-cautious. Rain didn't know if this world had an Apocalypse, if he was as bad here as he was where she came from. How would she explain that she's the Apocalypse of her world?
"A shelter, huh? Dunno if I'd get accepted for it, with how I look." She smiled again.
"Heh, I'm a mutant with no cash so guess I should just start robbing banks?" Rain let out a small laugh, relaxing a little.

"Well, you ever change your mind just let me know."
Naomi finally sat down and made herself comfortable as she looked to her two guests. Laughing along at Rain's joke knowing she didn't really wanted to rob a bank. Though there have been a spike of crime lately with people like Bane and the new Green Goblin running around.
"You're welcome to stay here if you like. I have a guest room."

Alex didn't even think about the way she looked. She couldn't imagine every shelter would turn her away because of the way she looked, but mutants weren't exactly looked on with much favor even in the new year.
"I'm sure they wouldn't kick you out."
Then Naomi offered her place for Rain to stay, and Alex was impressed with how giving Naomi truly was. She continued to sip her coffee to see what Rain would say to the offer.

"You met me, like, an hour ago, and you're offering to take me in?" She was a bit taken aback, surprised at the sudden show of kindness.
"I... I dunno if I can pay you any rent, or what your landlord would say if you took in a mutant." It wasn't that she was looking for excuses to turn the offer down, but her situation had left Rain with a defeatist attitude, suddenly worrying about her expenses, her future. A roof over her head would be nice but she had nothing to offer in return, what could she do?
"I want to, I really do, but I don't wanna be a burden, either."

"Hey, it's just until you can get on your own two feet in this new world. You wouldn't be a burden."
Maybe Naomi was too forward with her offer. She didn't know. Perhaps the fact her best friend was a mutant and a good man blinded her to the dangers of trusting a stranger, but she didn't care. She wanted to help this person any way she could.
"I could at least give you a ride to the shelter if you want to take a look at it."

Alex could tell Rain looked rather uncomfortable, so she thought it would be best to change the subject of conversation for now. Despite Naomi's kindness, Alex got why Rain was a bit reluctant. Alex wouldn't want to be a burden to anyone either.
"What all can you do, Rain? What are your powers?"
Alex was genuinely curious. There were a lot of things that mutants could do that amazed her. She was curious to learn what all Rain could do as a result of her genes.

She froze, eyes going wide. Rain should've seen it coming, it was an inevitability, but she hadn't. How do you tell someone that you accidentally ate the most dangerous mutant in your universe and became him?
"W-well, I look like this, it's sorta my default state. Soon as I got into high school I just sorta... Mutated!" She wasn't sure how convincing her lie was, it's hard to tell just how much your voice is cracking when you're trying to make up a cover story on the spot.
"A-And I can sorta shapeshift? I haven't experimented with it too much, but it's something." Shapeshifting sold her powers short by an almost offensive magnitude. She is Apocalypse, she had taken his life, his essence, his technology and his name, Rain Sabah Nur. Granted, she hadn't found herself any horsemen or started trying to enact some vague, poorly written "Survival of the Fittest" destroy the world scheme, but she had blue lips and super powers!

Naomi could hear Rain's voice cracking and wasn't sure why. Maybe she just didn't like talking about her powers. Some mutants didn't. Especially when they lived in a world where they were ridiculed and feared by regular people.
"It's okay you don't have to talk about it."
Naomi smiled at Rain.
"Are you sure you don't want anything?"

Alex could tell that Rain was growing uncomfortable for some reason and started to feel bad that she even asked.
"I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable or anything."
Alex took another sip of her coffee and found that it was now empty. She didn't even remember consuming that much coffee to begin with, but it was common for her to forget how many sips she took when she had something warm and tasty in her lap.

"No, no, it's..." With a deep breath, Rain collected herself, forcing her body to relax. She felt the almost alien sensation of her powers kicking in as she relaxed at a molecular level. It was strange, she wasn't quite used to it, but she was getting used to it.
"I learned I was a mutant by overhearing my mom on the phone, I changed into this shortly after." Something in her wanted to talk about what happened, but what if they didn't believe her? Worse, what if they did?
"It was.. Traumatic." She took a few seconds, trying to forget the incident. She had killed, Apocalypse was dead, and she couldn't share that with anyone.
"Oh, I guess... I'll have a coffee too, please?"
